X shortens route from social feed to crypto trading
On Sept. 16 Kraken joined X’s US Cashtag partner program, letting $tickers on X link directly to Kraken’s app or site to sign in, register and buy crypto.
Kraken joined X’s US Cashtag partner program on Sept. 16. When a user taps a $ticker on X they see related posts and a price chart. A partner link now sends users from that display to Kraken’s app or website to sign in or register and complete a crypto purchase.
X does not execute trades. Kraken continues to handle account access, order placement and settlement.
Before this integration, users typically left the social app to search prices, compare exchanges, open and fund an account and then return to buy. Cashtag partner links keep discovery, price information and a route to purchase inside X.
Exchanges have pursued direct links from social platforms. In 2023 another trading platform connected Cashtags to its service and reported 420 million Cashtag searches over a three-month span, a measure of how often people look up tickers inside the app.
X’s recommendation system surfaces posts based on likes, reposts, replies and network connections and distributes content beyond accounts people follow. When a trading link appears next to those posts and price information, users can move to an exchange from the same feed.
A 2024 experiment by the UK Financial Conduct Authority tested how app design affects trading. The study found push notifications raised trading by 11% and points or prize draws raised it by about 12%.
Kraken’s fees differ by product and execution method. Users still must consider quoted price, spreads, account eligibility and whether an asset fits their goals. The change alters where a purchase commonly begins, not where the trade is executed.
