Trump jokes about fourth term, $17M TRUMP tokens move
At the White House Correspondents’ dinner, Trump joked about a fourth term as wallets tied to the Official TRUMP memecoin moved 10.84 million tokens, about $16.9 million, to custodial and exchange addresses.
At the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, President Donald Trump teased a fourth presidential term and produced a ‘Trump 2028’ hat. At the event he joked, ‘I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States. I won three times. Now I’m going to do it again.’ He acknowledged the line was jocular and that legal term limits remain in place.
Around the same time, blockchain records show wallets linked to the Official TRUMP memecoin moved 10.84 million TRUMP tokens, worth roughly $16.9 million, to addresses that on-chain analysts say commonly route assets through a crypto custodian before reaching exchanges. Those transfers have not been confirmed as sales and have not been directly tied to the dinner remarks.
Over the past five months, project-related wallets have shifted about 48.25 million TRUMP in three batches, roughly $172.4 million at current prices. The token reached an early high of $75.35 after its January 2025 debut and has since fallen more than 66%, recently trading near $1.55.
A June investigation estimated the meme coin generated more than $1.2 billion in total revenue and that the Trump family received roughly $616 million from the venture. The same review estimated that many purchasers collectively faced more than $700 million in paper losses, with gains concentrated among early and large holders.
A prediction market contract asking whether the 22nd Amendment would be repealed or altered this year assigned about a 4% probability and showed limited trading volume, reflecting low market expectations that presidential term limits will change before 2027.
Project disclosures say the team has worked to expand liquidity and trading venues while preparing to use portions of unlocked token inventory for partnerships, acquisitions and other initiatives. The project created liquidity pools on decentralized platforms including Orca and Raydium. A TRUMP-SOL pool grew from about $2,000 at launch to a peak near $1.66 million in May, and a separate campaign distributed about 114,000 TRUMP as incentives for liquidity providers.
The project runs a Trump Coin Club that links leaderboard rankings to VIP experiences. Top holders gained access to a private suite during the recent FIFA World Cup. The program plans to send the top 23 holders to the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix in October and is promoting a Super Bowl LXI event in February 2027. A July 5 snapshot granted World Cup participants a 10% boost to their score if they maintained their positions.
On-chain analysts note that moving tokens to custodial or exchange addresses can serve several purposes, including providing liquidity, supporting market making, or enabling later sales or distributions. Transfers that pass through custodial addresses have previously preceded exchange listings, which is why analysts watch each new batch of project-controlled supply even when no sale is confirmed.
