Trump accuses Democrats, Republicans of stalling Iran deal

Trump posted on Truth Social that Democrats and some Republicans are blocking a near-final 60-day framework on Strait of Hormuz shipping and Iran’s nuclear limits after recent U.S. strikes.

Former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social accusing Democrats and some Republicans of blocking a near-final 60-day agreement with Iran, commenting after U.S. strikes and a reported Iranian counterattack over the weekend.

Negotiators have been working on a draft framework that would pause some hostilities for 60 days. The draft would require Iran to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days and to reaffirm it will not develop nuclear weapons in exchange for temporary oil sanctions waivers. The memorandum is under review at the White House.

Trump requested edits to language on enriched uranium and to the timing of U.S. verification. He also warned that public criticism from members of both parties is complicating negotiations.

U.S. Central Command described the weekend strikes as defensive, targeting missile launch positions and vessels suspected of deploying mines in southern Iranian waters. Iranian outlets reported a counter-strike on a U.S. air base in the Gulf; officials did not provide casualty details. The wider confrontation began after a joint U.S.-Israeli campaign in February.

Negotiators and traders tied the talks to energy markets because roughly 20% of global oil moves through the Strait of Hormuz every day. Iran’s earlier closure of the strait removed about one-fifth of global oil flows and contributed to market disruptions during the conflict.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized the reported terms as a sanctions giveaway, and that split among Republicans has complicated the White House’s timing on whether to sign the framework.

Markets showed limited immediate reaction. Bitcoin traded near $73,300 and ether around $1,994, while equity futures and oil prices moved in narrow ranges. Market participants said earlier strikes had driven heavy liquidations in crypto markets, but leveraged positions have since cooled.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us.” He added that criticism from “the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans” makes negotiation harder and urged critics to “sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end.”
