TRON assets enter deflationary era with buyback programs

TRON’s JST, SUN, BTT and WIN launched buyback-and-burn programs funded by protocol revenue, shrinking circulating supply and routing earnings back to token holders.

TRON’s four flagship tokens-JST, SUN, BTT and WIN-have started network-wide buyback-and-burn programs funded by protocol revenue. The initiatives reduce circulating supply by repurchasing tokens on the open market and removing them from circulation.

JST completed its fourth major buyback-and-burn round on July 17, removing 1,711,249,863 JST, equal to 17.29% of its total supply. JustLend DAO reports the cumulative buyback value across the four JST rounds has exceeded $94.62 million. Funding for JST repurchases has come mainly from Energy rental operations, which supplied 70% of allocated funds; accrued stability fees from USDJ were used for the first time to supply the remaining 30%.

SUN.io upgraded its buyback mechanism to increase on-chain transparency and broaden funding sources. The protocol draws buyback revenue from SunSwap V2, SunPump and SunX. Since launching a buyback initiative on Dec. 15, 2021, SUN.io has completed 51 consecutive burn rounds, permanently removing 678,547,188.32 SUN, about 3.4% of the token’s supply. SUN.io published a public buyback-and-burn dashboard on April 22 to show revenue flows.

BitTorrent and WINkLink introduced buyback-and-burn programs in July. WINkLink will allocate 100% of its revenue to repurchasing WIN. BitTorrent plans to use revenue from its decentralized business to buy back BTT. Both projects say they will begin official burn phases in Q4 2026.

Market data shows price and trading responses after the programs began. Since JST started repurchases, the token’s price rose more than 200%, crossed $0.10 on July 10 and reached a recent high roughly 50% above its Q1 peak. JST recorded $3.27 billion in trading volume in Q2. SUN rose about 10% over the month to July 29 and reported a Total Value Locked near $640 million with seven-day trading volume around $440 million. WIN rallied about 22.5% by July 29, and BTT saw renewed buying support amid broader market moves.

TRON reports nearly 400 million active accounts, more than $27 billion in Total Value Locked and over $90 billion in stablecoin supply across its ecosystem. In Q2 2026, projects on the network implemented product and technical upgrades aimed at increasing on-chain revenue: JustLend DAO launched an SBM V2 isolated pool and integrated with Binance Wallet; SUN.io overhauled its router contract to lower energy costs; BitTorrent deployed BTTInferGrid for decentralized AI compute; and WINkLink expanded its price-feed coverage. Project teams describe the buyback-and-burn programs as a way to convert protocol revenue into direct tokenholder returns.
