Tether Lent $1.5B to U.S. Dealer Gold.com

Tether provided about $1.5 billion in payables and advances to U.S. precious‑metals dealer Gold.com, covering most of the firm’s roughly $1.7 billion in leases as of June 30.

Tether provided about $1.5 billion in financing to U.S. precious‑metals dealer Gold.com, covering the bulk of the dealer’s roughly $1.7 billion in outstanding precious‑metal leases as of June 30, according to company figures.

The funding is recorded as payables and advances on Gold.com’s balance sheet. Gold.com reports owing Tether about $1.45 billion under those entries.

Under the lease arrangements, Gold.com obtains physical bullion without paying the full purchase price up front. The dealer uses the metal for wholesale trading and retail sales and settles the corresponding lease debt at a later date.

Tether made an earlier investment in Gold.com in 2026, and the recent credit extends its financial involvement beyond a prior stake. The financing supports the movement, storage and distribution of bullion handled by one of the largest U.S. precious‑metals dealers.

Tether issues the USDT stablecoin and holds a portfolio of assets that back that token, including U.S. government debt. The company also holds physical gold and issues a token called Tether Gold (XAUT) intended to represent ownership of gold.

The payables and advances create receivables tied to the precious‑metals supply chain and generate financing income for Tether. The concentration of roughly $1.45 billion in receivables from a single dealer increases Tether’s exposure to that company’s performance and to price movements in the precious‑metals market.

Gold.com’s September financial report showed higher annual earnings and highlighted substantial third‑party financing on its balance sheet.
