Tether backs Pact Labs $7M to push USA₮ for payroll

Tether led a $7 million Series A in Pact Labs to expand USA₮ as a payment rail for payroll, earned-wage access and real-time business payments. The funding will support product development and partnerships with payroll providers and payment processors.

The initiative targets the U.S. payroll system, which processes more than $11 trillion a year. Companies and workers often wait for funds because bank settlement follows legacy cycles. Tether and Pact Labs say on-chain settlement can shorten those cycles and speed access to earned wages.

Tether is shifting emphasis from trading volume toward recurring payment flows that could create steady demand for USA₮. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino wrote on X, “This confirms what our transaction data has shown for years: the demand for dollar-denominated settlement is a wages story.” The company expects payroll and wage-access flows to be more predictable than trading spikes.

Regulatory and compliance tools are part of the project. Chainalysis announced support for Stable, a Layer 1 blockchain built to run USDT natively. Chainalysis will provide real-time transaction screening, entity monitoring and fund-flow analysis, and automatic support for ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens.

Chainalysis says those services give institutions continuous monitoring before they move larger volumes on-chain. Tether and Chainalysis described faster settlement and institutional-grade compliance as addressing two barriers to enterprise adoption.

Pact Labs will use the Series A funds to build payroll and earned-wage access integrations and to pursue partnerships with employers and payment companies that could deploy USA₮ for routine payroll and payouts. USA₮ is Tether’s dollar-pegged stablecoin and Stable is designed to operate natively with USDT tokens.
