Six Agent Wallet Platforms Compared For Stablecoin Payments
A comparison of six platforms finds that Coinbase CDP and Circle provide payment rails, while Crossmint, Turnkey, Fireblocks and Privy focus on wallets, policies or custody.
Six platforms marketed for agent wallets serve different functions. Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP) and Circle provide wallets with payment rails. Crossmint, Turnkey, Fireblocks and Privy focus on wallet infrastructure, transaction controls or custody.
The main differences are who controls the credential used to sign transactions and where transaction rules are enforced. Companies also need to determine whether they require a settlement network, what records the platform produces and which networks their counterparties use. A policy applied inside the same system that holds the only signing credential may act as a filter rather than a separate control.
Coinbase CDP combines a server wallet with a hosted x402 facilitator for per-call payments. Coinbase’s documentation says private keys are held in a trusted execution environment and that developers control wallets through an API key and wallet secret. The first 1,000 onchain transactions each month are free; additional transactions cost $0.001. Payment verification is free. Batch settlement can group thousands of payments into one onchain transaction. Listed networks include Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, World and Solana.
Circle’s Agent Stack is built around USDC. It offers agent wallets with spending policies and compliance controls, gasless payments at sub-cent scale through Gateway, a hosted facilitator and a marketplace for services priced in USDC. Circle lists settlement support for Arc, Base and Polygon PoS. The platform’s payment tools are designed for flows denominated in USDC.
Crossmint provides smart wallets through one application programming interface. It separates embedded, treasury and agent wallets. Agent wallets operate within business-defined limits, while its policy engine enforces transaction rules onchain. Crossmint lists support for more than 50 networks, sponsored gas paid in fiat, funding onramps and recovery methods that preserve a wallet’s address. Its documentation describes embedded wallets as non-custodial but does not specify the custody model for agent and treasury wallets.
Turnkey uses a JSON-based policy engine to assess each request. Policies can approve or deny actions, require approval from named users and restrict conditions such as destination addresses. Turnkey’s documentation says actions are denied unless a policy permits them, while explicit denials override approvals. A quorum of root users can bypass policies, making root-user access a separate governance issue.
Fireblocks is designed for institutional custody and separation of duties. Its published materials describe threshold signing, in which the full private key is not assembled during key creation, rotation or signing. Rules can require approvals based on the source, destination, asset and transaction amount. Fireblocks also lists suspicious-fund screening, audit records and quorum approval for certain policy changes.
Privy offers embedded wallets for end users and server-controlled wallets for backend systems and agents. It says embedded wallets use secure hardware or trusted execution environments and describes them as non-custodial. Privy supports hundreds of blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Tempo and Base, and allows connections to external wallets such as MetaMask and Phantom. Its published overview gives limited information about agent-specific policy controls.
None of the six platforms sets an agent’s spending limit, proves that a human approved a purchase or provides a complete verifiable payment receipt. Businesses remain responsible for spending rules, counterparty screening, recordkeeping and human oversight. Platform onboarding can require an entity name, registration details and beneficial ownership information. Since an agent cannot hold legal obligations independently, transactions are attributed to a person or business.
