Samsung Brings USDC Transfers to 82 Million Galaxy Phones
Samsung Wallet and Pay will support USDC transfers on Solana for eligible U.S. users in the last week of October, with payouts available in more than 60 countries.
Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will support USDC transfers on the Solana blockchain for eligible U.S. users in the last week of October. The feature will be available on 82 million Galaxy devices, with more markets planned subject to local regulations.
Users will select “Buy Stablecoin” in Samsung Wallet, use an integrated service to purchase USDC and approve the transfer with biometric authentication on a registered device. Funds can be sent to digital wallets or bank accounts in more than 60 countries.
Samsung will provide the user interface and security checks. Solana will process the blockchain transactions. Bastion will operate the cross-border custody framework, Coinbase will hold USDC in its Prime Vault, and Borderless.xyz will connect transfers with licensed institutions for bank-account payouts.
Samsung has not disclosed fees or foreign-exchange pricing. Delivery times will depend on the receiving country’s payment system. Transfers may arrive in less than 20 minutes where instant payments are available. Other payouts may take one to two business days.
USDC will be the default dollar stablecoin. The announcement does not list Circle, USDC’s issuer, as a Samsung partner. Users will hold custodial balances rather than private keys, and those balances will not have FDIC or SIPC insurance.
Woncheol Chai, Samsung’s wallet chief, described the service as available without another application or private-key management. Kevin Lehtiniitty, chief executive of Borderless.xyz, characterized it as a consumer product for people who do not already use cryptocurrency applications.
Samsung previewed the feature at Galaxy Unpacked in London in July. The company showed a USDC mock-up but did not name the blockchain, issuer or launch date. It is also considering stablecoin payments for online purchases and in-store tap payments.
Samsung launched a blockchain wallet in 2019 and added Coinbase to Samsung Wallet for U.S. users last year. Apple Pay supports crypto payments through the Mesh network, while Google is developing a payments protocol that includes stablecoins.
Stablecoin supply on Solana has grown by nearly 20% from a year earlier. The network processed more than $5.25 trillion in stablecoin volume in 2026, according to the source data. USDC represented about 70% of adjusted stablecoin volume in the first half of the year, compared with about 25% for USDT.
