Roaring Kitty’s X Post Links to RKC Token, Triggers 25% Rally

Keith Gill, known online as Roaring Kitty and followed by about 1.6 million on X, posted a Solana Pump.fun contract address for a new token called Red Kitten Crew (RKC) on May 11 at 21:13 GMT after 16 months of silence. The post contained only the token address and a short cartoon clip; minutes later the account posted an image with the text “red bandit crew 4 life.” Both posts were deleted.

The Solana RKC moved from Pump.fun’s bonding curve to the Raydium exchange within minutes of launch. It reached a peak market capitalization near $5.97 million before falling to about $4 million. Twenty-four-hour trading volume for the token reached roughly $2.55 million.

A separate, older token called RockyCat on the BNB Chain uses the same RKC ticker and a cat theme but has no team or affiliation with the new Solana token. RockyCat’s price rose about 25% after the Roaring Kitty posts, and market participants said the shared ticker likely prompted some buying.

Gill’s public activity has mostly focused on his GameStop holdings and options trading, including a disclosed $180 million position reported in June 2024. He has not previously promoted meme coins or used Pump.fun. At the time of writing he had not issued an explanation on other channels.

On-chain analysts and GameStop holders flagged the sudden posts and the choice of a Pump.fun launch as out of character for the account and treated the messages as indicative of a likely compromise. Pump.fun has been used for brief, speculative launches; research cited by market watchers finds a high proportion of tokens launched there show characteristics associated with scams or wash trading, with one measure at about 98.6%.

GameStop shares briefly rose the same day before turning negative; at the time of writing GME traded around $23.19. Traders and on-chain analysts continue to monitor the Roaring Kitty account and the RKC listings for further developments or any official statement from Gill.
