Ripple announced Oct. 15 that institutions can trade swaps around the clock tied to more than 100 traditional markets through Trade.xyz perpetual contracts on Hyperliquid. Ripple Prime is the principal counterparty, and the product is offered through its British Virgin Islands entity. Other regions are planned.
The swaps reference stocks, equity indexes, exchange-traded funds, metals, energy and foreign exchange. Ripple offers consolidated margining across the supported asset classes, allowing collateral to be shared among positions when its margin methodology permits it. RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-linked stablecoin, is eligible as collateral subject to local rules.
Trade.xyz perpetuals reference conventional markets without requiring the underlying assets to trade on their regular exchanges. When those exchanges are open, the platform’s oracle uses external prices. When external prices are unavailable, it uses the venue’s order book and adjusts toward that internal price over 30 minutes.
For Tesla, one of the listed markets, the trading specification allows price discovery within a range of 5% in either direction, with two resets in each direction. External pricing is available from Sunday evening through Friday evening Eastern time.
A study of 614 weekends found that the final weekend price was closer to the next market reopening price than to the previous Friday close in 70.7% of cases. The median absolute error was 53.4 basis points against the reopening price, compared with 113.3 basis points against the Friday close. Each observation had at least $1 million in weekend volume.
Trade.xyz handled $59.4 billion in perpetual volume in September, equal to 23.9% of Hyperliquid’s total, across 110 markets. Weekend volume averaged $541 million a day. The figures cover the venue as a whole and do not identify the amount attributable to Ripple Prime clients.
The offering builds on Ripple Prime’s February integration with Hyperliquid and Ripple’s August announcement of total-return swaps linked to equities, indexes and digital assets. The latest product adds Trade.xyz markets and continuous trading.
Standard Custody & Trust Company, a New York-regulated trust company, issues RLUSD. Ripple’s Oct. 8 dashboard reported $2.6 billion in reserves against more than $2.4 billion of RLUSD in circulation, equal to 105.8% coverage based on issuer-reported balances.
Trade.xyz perpetuals settle in USDC on Hyperliquid, while Ripple Prime clients use RLUSD as collateral. XRP is not identified as collateral or a settlement asset in the announcement.
Ripple’s risk disclosures include collateral calls, price differences between synthetic markets and underlying assets, limited liquidity, counterparty and insolvency exposure, operational failures and stablecoin depegging. The announcement did not disclose position limits, client-specific margin schedules, collateral haircuts, default protections or the hedging method for each position.
The Bank for International Settlements said in a March 2026 summary that leverage, concentrated positions, financial-sector links and rapid collateral calls can increase margin-related vulnerabilities. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued guidance on 24/7 trading in May. In June, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the CFTC requested comment on aligning portfolio-margin requirements across securities, futures and swaps.
