OpenAI remakes ChatGPT as enterprise-focused super app
OpenAI is redesigning ChatGPT into an enterprise-focused super app with built-in coding tools, AI agents and image generation ahead of a potential IPO.
OpenAI is redesigning ChatGPT into an enterprise-focused super app that integrates coding tools, automated agents and image generation. The company plans to roll out the new interface across ChatGPT’s website and mobile apps in the coming weeks.
The update places coding functionality that was previously sold separately at the center of the ChatGPT experience. It adds automated agents able to carry out multistep tasks and surfaces image-generation features and partner applications inside the app. Company engineers and former employees described the redesign as intended to move many tasks that once required multiple prompts or manual steps into a single workflow.
OpenAI aims to guide its reported 900 million weekly users toward higher-margin enterprise features by embedding tools for developers, designers and business workflows directly in ChatGPT. The company expects its models to infer user intent more naturally over time, reducing reliance on typed prompts and shifting interaction patterns toward more conversational or voice-driven inputs.
A user of the service posted that the changes “literally sound like the beginning of the AGI transition” and added that improved voice interfaces would be welcome if prompts become less central.
The redesign follows a large funding round and ongoing growth plans. OpenAI closed a $122 billion funding round in March that valued the company at $852 billion, with major commitments including a $50 billion commitment from one technology firm and $30 billion commitments from two others. The company reports roughly $2 billion in monthly revenue but remains unprofitable due to high compute costs.
OpenAI has submitted confidential IPO paperwork and is working with investment banks on plans that could lead to a public offering by late 2026. Advisors on the potential listing include major Wall Street firms.
The company faces competition from other AI platform developers. A peer that develops the Claude family of models filed confidential registration documents on June 1 and has reported a large private valuation from a recent funding round and a reported rapid revenue run rate.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022. Company executives and engineers say the current redesign is the most extensive change since that launch, refocusing the product toward coding, creative work and automated agents and presenting a broader revenue story for investors.
