MoneyGram launches USDC-backed Visa card in Colombia
MoneyGram launched a USDC-backed Visa card in Colombia on Sept. 10, 2026. Customers can spend on Visa rails, add the card to mobile wallets, and pick up cash at MoneyGram locations.
MoneyGram launched the MoneyGram Card, a stablecoin-backed Visa debit product, in Colombia on Sept. 10, 2026. The card uses Circle’s USDC at launch and links a stable-dollar balance to Visa payments, mobile-wallet use and in-network cash pickup.
The product is available to eligible customers through the MoneyGram mobile app as a virtual Visa debit card. MoneyGram said a physical card option is planned for late 2026, and the company expects to roll the product out to additional markets in the coming months.
MoneyGram built the payment stack using Rain for card infrastructure, Crossmint for wallet capabilities, and settlement on the Stellar network. At launch the card supports USDC; MoneyGram plans to add its own MGUSD token to the card at a later date. MGUSD was issued on Stellar in June 2026.
Customers can enroll and manage balances inside the MoneyGram app, add the virtual card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, use the balance anywhere Visa is accepted, or convert the balance to local currency and collect cash at MoneyGram agent counters.
MoneyGram reported more than 60 million active customers and nearly 500,000 retail locations across over 200 countries and territories. The company described the card as an option that connects digital-dollar balances with its physical agent footprint.
The initial announcement did not include a published fee schedule, foreign-exchange spreads, eligibility criteria or details on deposit-insurance treatment. The company also did not provide a dated plan for adding MGUSD to the card.
Anthony Soohoo, MoneyGram’s chairman and CEO, described the product as offering “more freedom and control to manage their money, all in one place,” and noted signup and balance management are handled through the MoneyGram app.
The Colombia launch brings a consumer-facing Visa spend product together with agent cash pickup in a live market while MoneyGram prepares wider geographic availability later in 2026.
