MicroStrategy deposits $30M in BTC to Coinbase Prime

MicroStrategy deposited 411.48 BTC (about $30.3M) into Coinbase Prime; Polymarket odds the firm will sell any Bitcoin by Dec. 31, 2026, rose to about 91%.

MicroStrategy transferred 411.48 BTC, roughly $30.3 million at current prices, into Coinbase Prime. On-chain records show the move comprised two principal transfers of about 205.3 BTC and 206.2 BTC alongside several smaller transactions.

The transfer was the company’s first significant direct deposit to an exchange in nearly two years. Coinbase Prime is an institutional custody and trading platform used by hedge funds, corporations and large investors.

MicroStrategy’s total corporate Bitcoin holdings are about 843,738 BTC, which the company values at more than $62 billion on its balance sheet at current prices.

Odds on the prediction market Polymarket that MicroStrategy will sell any Bitcoin by Dec. 31, 2026, rose to about 91% after the transfer. Market participants increased bets following earlier comments from CEO Michael Saylor that the company might sell portions of its holdings tactically to fund preferred share dividends or to manage its capital structure.

Bitcoin traded near $73,000 to $74,000 after the deposit. Transfers to an institutional venue such as Coinbase Prime can be used for a range of purposes and do not necessarily indicate an immediate exchange sell-off. Possible uses include negotiated over-the-counter trades, posting collateral for lending, meeting dividend obligations, tax planning or routine portfolio rebalancing.

Analyst David Battaglia noted that MicroStrategy holds roughly nine times more Bitcoin than its reported debt and suggested selling some holdings to pay down the company’s $6.5 billion in convertible debt, followed by rebuilding Bitcoin positions over time.

MicroStrategy has previously acted as a market proxy for Bitcoin on public markets through its accumulation program and the correlation between its stock, MSTR, and Bitcoin price moves. The company has not released a formal explanation for the Coinbase Prime deposit. Investors and traders said they will watch for any corporate disclosure or additional on-chain activity to determine whether a public sale is underway.
