Memecoin trading boosts tokenized-stock activity
Pump.fun and Raydium added custom-pair features to let memecoins trade against tokenized stocks; Robinhood Chain memecoin-stock pairs recorded $217 million on Sept. 2.
Pump.fun and Raydium introduced custom-pair features that let new memecoins trade directly against tokenized stocks, ETFs and other quote assets. Robinhood Chain memecoin-stock pairs recorded $217 million in trading volume on Sept. 2.
Pump.fun announced a Custom Pairs option on Sept. 9 that allows new memecoins to be quoted against tokenized stocks, major crypto assets and other quote tokens instead of only SOL or stablecoins. Raydium disclosed on Sept. 6 that a newly issued token can pair with any supported quote token through its LaunchLab program and named LaunchOnSF as the first integration. Separately, on Aug. 10 xStocks opened five tokenized stocks and ETFs as native spot markets on Hyperliquid’s HyperCore order books and listed planned composability on HyperEVM for future lending and structured-product integrations.
When a memecoin is listed against a tokenized stock, traders who buy the memecoin must acquire or supply the stock token to execute trades. That activity moves tokenized-stock units into wallets and liquidity pools and increases transaction counts that market participants can measure. Robinhood Chain recorded $217 million in one-day volume on Sept. 2 for memecoin-stock pairs.
Protocols and service providers have launched products that accept tokenized stocks in lending and vault strategies. Flowdesk, stablecoin issuer Agora and xStocks launched a Morpho vault that accepts the AUSD stablecoin and uses tokenized S&P 500 exposure (SPYx) as collateral. The vault opened with an $18 million cap; Morpho’s interface showed about $6.3 million in deposits around Sept. 8–9. Flowdesk handles curation, liquidity and ongoing risk monitoring for the product, which lists Limitless Frontier Corp. as operator. Ondo has built a tokenized-stock framework that connects eligible users to minting and redemption against underlying market exposure, subject to geographic and onboarding limits.
Market participants identify several operational requirements for tokenized stocks to function in lending and collateral markets. These requirements include reliable minting and redemption mechanisms, clear legal and eligibility rules for holders, robust price oracles that can operate during volatile trading, and sufficient market depth so collateral can be liquidated without large losses. Thinly traded quote assets can produce inventory without reliable price discovery. Limited redemption options or oracle failures during volatile trading can expose lenders and borrowers to outsized losses.
A commonly described sequence for market development starts with issuance on-chain, followed by custom-pair trading that produces transaction volume and wider token distribution, then liquidity provision by market makers, acceptance as collateral in lending markets, managed vaults and yield strategies, and finally access by professional or institutional users through structured products and redemption mechanics. Current activity includes memecoin trading against stock tokens on Robinhood Chain, custom-pair features on Solana launch venues and early tokenized-equity lending and vault products with live deposits.
