Machi loses $269,000 as 1,650 ETH is liquidated

A Hyperliquid wallet tracked as belonging to Machi lost about $269,225 when 1,650 ETH was liquidated on Oct. 15, then reopened a 2,500 ETH long seven minutes later.

A Hyperliquid wallet tracked as belonging to Machi lost about $269,225 when the derivatives exchange force-liquidated 1,650 ETH on Oct. 15. The wallet began rebuilding a long position about seven minutes after the final forced sale.

Hyperliquid data shows that the liquidation took place between 3:22:25 a.m. and 3:24:32 a.m. BST. The exchange recorded 232 forced-sale fills at prices ranging from $2,330.30 to $2,380.30. The reported loss excludes about $1,087 in fill fees.

The wallet resumed buying ETH at 3:31:27 a.m. BST, six minutes and 55 seconds after the final forced fill. By 3:56 a.m., it held a 320 ETH long position with an average entry price of about $2,355.53.

The position grew during the day. By 1:16 p.m. BST, the wallet held 2,500 ETH at an average entry price of about $2,370.34.

The forced liquidation followed additional voluntary selling. Between 2 p.m. BST on Oct. 14 and the final forced fill on Oct. 15, the wallet voluntarily closed about 4,000 ETH for approximately $302,312 in realized losses before fees. That amount is separate from the forced-liquidation loss. About 250 ETH of the voluntary closures occurred during the forced-close period.

A separate Hyperliquid transaction showed 250,000 USDC transferred into the wallet’s spot balance at 10:48 a.m. BST. The transfer occurred before the wallet reached its 2,500 ETH position.

Hyperliquid’s liquidation rules allow collateral to remain in an account after a forced closure if order-book sales restore the required maintenance margin. Positions become eligible for liquidation when account equity falls below that threshold. Any remaining funds can be used for new trades.

ETH was trading at $2,362.88 in a 1:14 p.m. BST market snapshot on Oct. 15. During the previous U.S. session, spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $261.4 million in net outflows, while spot Ether ETFs recorded $129.5 million in net outflows.

An Aug. 14 snapshot of the tracked wallet showed a 2,500 ETH long with a liquidation price of $1,859.15.
