Kazakhstan Seeks App Restrictions on Six Crypto Platforms
Kazakhstan’s financial regulator plans to ask Apple and Google to restrict mobile access to Coinbase and five other crypto platforms. The orders have not been served.
Kazakhstan’s Astana Financial Services Authority plans to send court orders to Apple and Google seeking restrictions on six crypto platforms, including Coinbase. The orders target unauthorized digital-asset services provided in or to users in the Astana International Financial Centre, a financial jurisdiction in Kazakhstan.
AFSA announced the plan on Oct. 20. The orders have not been served, and the regulator has not confirmed whether Apple or Google has started restricting access to any of the platforms.
The Sept. 18 variation order covers the operators of BingX, Bitcoin.com, Huobi Global, also known as HTX, BitMart, Coinbase and WEEX. It followed a default judgment issued by AFSA on Sept. 15. LBank was removed after its operator reported blocking access to its services in Kazakhstan.
The order prohibits providing, offering or marketing digital-asset services without authorization in the AIFC or to users there. It also prohibits distributing or making mobile applications available through any platform for providing those services.
Apple and Google would be bound by the order once formally served, as if they had been parties to the case. After acknowledging service, the companies could ask the court to change or cancel the order. The document does not specify the technical measures the app stores must take or whether any restrictions would apply to all users in Kazakhstan.
AFSA reported that nine other platforms had voluntarily restricted access to their applications in Kazakhstan through both app stores. The regulator withdrew its claims against those companies. Seven platforms have said they intend to seek licenses to operate digital-asset trading facilities.
The proceedings follow warnings issued to more than 20 platforms in 2025 and court action that began in early 2026. Coinbase faced access restrictions in Kazakhstan in November 2023. The September orders address the distribution of mobile applications as well as unauthorized digital-asset services.
