Illuvium says cuts buy 12+ months of runway; MMO now core
Illuvium says six months of cuts and a wage reduction bought more than 12 months of operating runway, and remaining staff are focused on an MMO. The company did not disclose cash or burn.
Illuvium announced on Aug. 21 that six months of cost reductions plus a further wage cut have restored more than 12 months of operating runway. The studio did not publish its current cash balance or monthly burn rate.
Kieran Warwick, co-founder and chief executive, said the recent measures had restored “more than 12 months of operating runway” and noted that most team members have been with the company for over three years.
Illuvium last reported a monthly burn figure in December 2024 at roughly $900,000, after administrators stopped taking salaries and overall wages were cut by about $85,000. At that time the company expected to seek additional capital around March 2025; the company did not confirm whether new financing contributed to the latest runway estimate.
Recent governance records provide limited financial detail. Council minutes from July classified discussions of operational costs, staff restructuring, treasury and revenue distribution, and the company has not published a full financial breakdown. A social media claim that Illuvium raised $132 million has circulated but remains unconfirmed by the studio.
The remaining workforce is largely focused on a narrowed massively multiplayer online game project. Council minutes from February show the MMO’s scope was reduced and a target launch date of December 2026 was set. The launch plan emphasizes reusing existing assets, procedural dungeons and boss encounters; player-versus-player combat and additional combat polish are scheduled as post-launch updates.
Illuvium also plans several smaller releases in 2026 intended to generate revenue, including a final Celebrations collection for Beyond Set 1, Beyond Chaos, Primal Tactica and Loadout. An external studio is developing Primal Tactica under license and is expected to showcase the title at Steam Next Fest in October; the game is listed for early access in the fourth quarter. Illuvium has said most revenue from that title would flow to the studio. Loadout is expected to distribute tokens to Illuvium’s staking contract to support ILV and ILV-ETH staking, but no launch date has been announced.
Market indicators show the ILV token has fallen more than 67% over the year through Aug. 21, though it recorded short-term gains in the 24 hours before the company’s statement. Market capitalization and trading volume remain modest compared with earlier peaks.
Illuvium is a blockchain-based game studio known for combining collectible NFT assets with role-playing and auto-battler mechanics. Public records and governance minutes indicate the company has focused recent efforts on delivering a scaled-back MMO and several ancillary products while keeping detailed financial information private.
