Data Foundation extends insider token lockups, no new date
Data Foundation extended team and lead-investor token lockups by 18 months in June but did not disclose a start date, affected wallets or token amounts; tokens due to unlock Aug. 13 remained locked.
In June, Data Foundation extended token lockups for its team and lead investors by 18 months but did not provide a start date, affected wallet addresses or the number of tokens covered. Tokens that had been scheduled to begin unlocking on Aug. 13 remained locked.
The June announcement also renamed the organization and token. Story Foundation became Data Foundation, Story Network became Data Network and the $IP token was renamed $DATA on a one-to-one basis. The foundation said holders did not need to take any action.
In February the foundation postponed the initial release and all subsequent vesting for previously locked team, investor and insider allocations from Feb. 13 to Aug. 13, while stating total supply, allocation buckets, vesting terms and legal ownership remained unchanged. At that time it reported introducing an automated smart-contract mechanism to enforce the revised lockup framework.
Public materials do not include a smart-contract address, source code, transaction evidence or a list of affected wallet addresses for either the February change or the June extension. The foundation has not confirmed whether the June extension used the same automated enforcement mechanism.
Original token allocation documents assigned 21.6% of the 1 billion-token initial supply to Early Backers and 20% to Core Contributors, with those categories set to vest over 48 months. The June announcement named team and lead investors specifically and did not state that every holder in the Early Backer or Core Contributor categories is included in the extension.
The June update did not mention community allocations, staking rewards or general emissions scheduled for Aug. 13. Adding 18 months to the previously scheduled Aug. 13 date would point to a potential Feb. 2028 release, but the foundation has not confirmed that calculation or published an alternative schedule.
As of Aug. 13 the tokens covered by the June extension had not begun unlocking and the foundation has not published wallet addresses, contract details or token quantities that would identify which insiders remain affected.
