Cosmos back online; Ledger Wallet still blocks ATOM access
Cosmos Mainnet resumed block production after a Sept. 8 stall, but Ledger Wallet users cannot view ATOM balances or submit transactions through Ledger’s app.
Cosmos Mainnet resumed producing blocks after a stall on Sept. 8, but Ledger Wallet users remain unable to view ATOM balances, transaction history or broadcast ATOM transactions through Ledger’s app.
Infrastructure provider QuickNode reported that Cosmos Mainnet stalled at block 32,878,318 at 18:12 UTC on Sept. 8. QuickNode’s nodes returned to the chain tip by 14:26 UTC on Sept. 9 and the company marked its incident resolved at 00:24 UTC on Sept. 12. By Sept. 12, the Cosmos RPC endpoint was reporting heights above 32.9 million, indicating the network had continued producing blocks beyond the height cited in the initial alert.
Ledger opened an incident on its status page at 19:41 CEST on Sept. 8 and posted an update at 16:12 CEST on Sept. 10 saying restoration work was ongoing. As of Sept. 13 the company listed ATOM balances, transaction history and the ability to submit transactions as unavailable in its app. Ledger has not provided a cause or an estimated restoration time for the continued outage.
The network’s resumed block production and the wallet outage can occur at the same time because wallet interfaces depend on service layers that are separate from blockchain consensus. QuickNode’s resolution applied to its node infrastructure; the ongoing Ledger incident appears to affect Ledger’s data retrieval or transaction submission layers. Ledger has not identified which component of its stack is responsible for the outage.
Ledger’s incident notice directs users who need to move ATOM urgently to third-party wallet interfaces that can connect to a Ledger device, including Cosmostation and Keplr. Ledger’s guidance for Keplr instructs users to open the Cosmos app on the Ledger device and choose Keplr’s hardware-wallet connection option. That option keeps the Ledger device in the transaction flow while the alternative interface queries the blockchain and prepares transactions.
The company’s security guidance and standard hardware-wallet practice emphasize that connecting a hardware wallet to a software interface is not the same as importing the device recovery phrase. Users should never enter their recovery phrase into a computer or smartphone or share it with anyone.
Users who do not need to transact immediately are advised to monitor Ledger’s status page for updates before attempting any workaround. The incident remained open on Ledger’s dashboard and could change without notice, so checking the company’s latest notices is recommended before taking further action.
