Citadel Invests $600M in Crypto.com and Kraken
Citadel Securities invested $400M in Crypto.com and $200M in Kraken, each valued at $20 billion; Kraken disclosed Citadel’s liquidity and market-structure role while Crypto.com did not.
Citadel Securities announced $600 million in investments across two competing crypto exchanges: $400 million in Crypto.com and $200 million in Kraken. Both companies are valued at $20 billion.
Crypto.com disclosed the $400 million investment on July 16, 2026, describing it as the company’s first institutional funding round in ten years. Crypto.com said the capital will support expansion into tokenized securities, derivatives and connections between digital-asset and traditional markets.
Kraken disclosed an executed agreement on Nov. 18, 2025, for a $200 million investment. Kraken’s filing described operational elements of the relationship, including differentiated liquidity provision, risk-management expertise and market-structure support.
Crypto.com’s announcement listed intended uses for the funds but did not describe any operational or liquidity-provision role for Citadel comparable to Kraken’s disclosure.
Neither announcement specifies ownership stakes, board seats, voting rights or exclusive commercial terms tied to the investments. Both announcements indicate the investments do not give Citadel control of either exchange.
Earlier reporting indicated Citadel had explored providing liquidity on major exchanges before the Crypto.com investment, but that exploration was not a confirmed bilateral agreement at the time.
Both exchanges have stated plans to expand offerings beyond spot crypto trading to include tokenized assets and derivatives. Additional public disclosures from the companies could clarify whether Citadel’s role at Crypto.com will include operational elements similar to those described by Kraken.
