Circle launches StableFX for 24/7 stablecoin FX on Arc

Circle launched StableFX on Arc, letting vetted businesses request quotes and atomically settle stablecoin FX trades at any hour, targeting the nearly $10 trillion-a-day FX market.

Circle launched StableFX on its Arc blockchain, offering screened businesses a platform to request competing quotes from approved liquidity providers and settle stablecoin foreign-exchange trades around the clock with atomic finality.

Firms submit a currency pair, amount and preferred settlement window through a request-for-quote process. Execution occurs off-chain; after counterparties agree, they fund a smart-contract escrow on Arc and settlement occurs on-chain so both stablecoin legs transfer together or neither does.

Users can choose near-instant settlement or defer completion to an agreed window, allowing trades outside traditional banking hours.

Circle activated StableFX less than a week after Arc reached mainnet. Developer documentation uses USDC and euro-denominated EURC as example trading pairs. Circle plans to add more local stablecoin pairs but has not published a full list. Participation on Arc does not automatically make every token available through StableFX; Circle must enable each pair for the venue.

Access is restricted to eligible incorporated businesses that pass screening. Circle positions the service for payment companies, financial institutions and corporate treasury desks rather than retail traders.

StableFX exchanges digital currencies but does not convert local stablecoins into bank deposits for recipients. Firms using tokens issued by third parties will need separate arrangements with those issuers for deposits and redemptions, custody and local payout infrastructure. Circle Mint can supply USDC and EURC liquidity and offer fiat conversion in markets it supports, but those on-ramps do not extend automatically to tokens from other issuers.

Circle screens counterparties and provides a single venue through which approved businesses can contract with multiple liquidity providers, keeping credit and counterparty arrangements at the institutional level.

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire called StableFX a “strong emerging primitive” for atomically settled, real-time onchain foreign exchange and pointed to stablecoin issuers and market participants being assembled around the service.

StableFX is designed to enable settlement outside banking hours. Expansion will require adding more live stablecoin pairs, attracting institutional volume and establishing reliable routes from stablecoins into local fiat payout systems.
