Cash App’s $25 Magic Wand tap-to-pay device sells out
Cash App’s first NFC-enabled $25 Magic Wand, part of Block’s Cash App Tags lineup, sold out shortly after launching on June 4.
Block’s first NFC-enabled Magic Wand sold out soon after going on sale on June 4. The pearlescent, star-tipped tag is the first product in the Cash App Tags hardware lineup and was priced at $25.
The wand links to a user’s Cash App Card and uses Visa’s tap-to-pay network to make contactless payments at terminals that accept contactless transactions. The device includes a keyring for attachment to bags or clothing.
Users receive instant spend notifications and can lock or deactivate the tag remotely if it is lost. Block monitors tag transactions for fraud in real time.
The product grew from a social-media trend in which people placed tap-to-pay cards inside homemade wands. Block turned the idea into a manufactured accessory for everyday carry.
Thomas Templeton, Block’s hardware lead, described the product as ‘an effort to bring payments into public view.’
Block cites data that one in five U.S. teens carries a Cash App Card. In April 2026 the company introduced a parent-controlled debit card for children aged six to 12. Earlier this year Block released the Block Bitkey Bitcoin wallet with new Cash App integrations.
After a restructuring earlier in the year that cut about 40% of its workforce and left just under 6,000 employees, the company has focused on consumer-facing products. Block is developing additional Cash App Tag form factors and plans limited-edition drops before some versions become permanently available later this summer.
