BNB’s $1.2 billion October burn cut supply by 1.9%

BNB’s Oct. 19 quarterly burn destroyed 1.646 million tokens valued at $1.197 billion. The token count rose 1.9% from July, while the disclosed dollar value rose 28.5%.

The BNB Foundation reported the completion of BNB Chain’s 37th quarterly burn on Oct. 19, 2026. The event removed 1,646,196.44 BNB, with an approximate disclosed value of $1.197 billion.

The July 15 burn removed 1,615,827.795 BNB and was valued at about $931.7 million. The October burn therefore destroyed 30,368.645 more BNB, a 1.9% increase. Its disclosed dollar value rose by about $265.6 million, or 28.5%.

Dividing each disclosed dollar figure by the number of tokens burned gives an implied value of about $727.34 per BNB for October and $576.61 for July. The implied value rose 26.1% between the two events.

The disclosed valuations do not identify the price data used to calculate the Auto-Burn amount or the price paid to acquire the tokens. The announcements describe transferring BNB to a designated dead address and do not document a new open-market purchase.

BNB Chain’s Auto-Burn mechanism uses BNB’s price and block production on BNB Smart Chain to calculate the amount retired. Binance’s December 2021 announcement described the mechanism as independent of revenue generated by BNB on its centralized exchange.

The BNBBurn methodology adjusts block-production data when BNB Smart Chain changes its block interval. It converts each period into units based on the network’s original three-second blocks and removes fractional remainders from each converted period. The price input is described as a quarterly median.

A token burn records the removal of BNB from usable supply. A buyback would require evidence that the tokens were acquired before they were retired. The October announcement did not state how much BNB was immediately available for trading or how much selling pressure the burn removed.

The announcement reported total remaining supply of 131,512,085 BNB and repeated the Auto-Burn target of 100 million BNB.

BNB Chain also burns part of the fees collected on its network through BEP-95. The mechanism destroys a validator-governed share of gas fees from each BNB Smart Chain block. Its initial ratio was set at 10%. Comparisons between fee-funded burns in July and October would require matching data on collected fees, the applicable burn ratio and the periods measured.
