Bitcoin Suisse gets Bermuda license for crypto asset management
Bitcoin Suisse’s Bermuda unit received a Class F DABA license and Class B Investment Business Act registration from the Bermuda Monetary Authority to serve professional and institutional clients.
Bitcoin Suisse (International) Ltd. has been granted a Class F licence under Bermuda’s Digital Asset Business Act and a Class B registration under the Investment Business Act by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The approvals cover regulated digital asset management and investment advisory services for professional and institutional clients outside Switzerland.
The authorisations were issued on a pre-operational basis and are subject to customary conditions that must be met before the Bermuda entity can begin full regulated operations.
Domiciled in Hamilton and wholly owned by BTCS Holding Ltd., the affiliate will offer investment advisory services, discretionary portfolio management mandates and proprietary investment strategies to professional and institutional investors, including family offices and external asset managers.
The firm will operate on a non-custodial basis and will rely on regulated custody providers and partner banks to hold client assets. Clients will be able to fund mandates in bitcoin, stablecoins or traditional fiat currencies. The Class B registration under the Investment Business Act enables the entity to provide investment advisory and discretionary portfolio management services to its target clients.
Investment decisions and portfolio construction will be supported by a chief investment office and a dedicated research function that use Bitcoin Suisse’s Crypto Analysis Framework and a Global Crypto Taxonomy, a classification system the company says covers roughly 600 digital assets across six sectors.
Andrej Majcen, co‑founder and group CEO, described the approvals as supporting the firm’s transition to a global wealth management platform and noted that institutional investors seek partners with crypto expertise alongside traditional governance and regulatory standards.
The Bermuda authorisations sit alongside an in-principle approval from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of the Abu Dhabi Global Market. Bitcoin Suisse AG was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Zug. The group provides trading, custody, staking and lending services and employs more than 200 staff across Switzerland, Europe and the Middle East.
Bermuda introduced the Digital Asset Business Act in 2018. As part of its licensing process, the Bermuda Monetary Authority reviewed the firm’s compliance arrangements, governance and operational readiness.
