American Bitcoin Holds 7,500+ BTC as Strategy Buys 24,869
American Bitcoin raised reserves above 7,500 BTC and moved to 15th among public holders as Strategy bought 24,869 BTC; ABTC shares fell 8% on May 18.
Regulatory filings dated May 18 show American Bitcoin increased its bitcoin reserves to more than 7,500 BTC and climbed to 15th among publicly traded bitcoin holders. The company’s stock fell to an all‑time low that day, sliding about 8%.
American Bitcoin, listed on Nasdaq and co‑founded by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., reported its bitcoin reserve has grown more than threefold since the company’s public debut last September, following a stock‑for‑stock merger with miner Hut 8. The firm reported more than 700 satoshis per share, more than double the level at listing, and said it rose 15 ranks among public holders in just over eight months.
The disclosure drew renewed attention to the firm’s accumulation strategy. Eric Trump disputed critical coverage on social media and the company posted on X: “The accumulation machine doesn’t stop. #ABTC.”
Separately, Strategy, the company formerly known as MicroStrategy, reported a purchase of 24,869 BTC for about $2.01 billion at an average price near $80,985 per bitcoin. The filing raised the firm’s holdings to 843,738 BTC, which it valued at $63.87 billion, and reported a cost basis of roughly $75,700 per bitcoin.
The purchase was financed through Strategy’s STRC Perpetual Preferred Share Program. An 8‑K disclosed the sale of about 19.5 million STRC shares that generated approximately $1.95 billion to acquire roughly 24,066 BTC at an average price near $81,000.
The filing also reported a bitcoin yield of 12.6% year‑to‑date in 2026 and confirmed the company did not sell any bitcoin in the period covered. Prediction‑market odds that the firm would sell before May 31 were about 41%.
Strategy controls roughly three‑quarters of corporate‑held bitcoin and continues toward a target of holding 1 million BTC, the company disclosed. The two filings show the largest corporate bitcoin treasury operators added to reserves last week while spot bitcoin traded about 5% below the prior week.
The Strategy filing included the line: “Strategy has acquired 24,869 BTC for ~$2.01 billion at ~$80,985 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 12.6% YTD 2026.”
