VanEck Foresees $1M Bitcoin Within Five Years

VanEck’s head of digital assets projects Bitcoin could reach $1 million per coin within about five years, joining other firms that forecast a seven-figure price.
Matthew Sigel, VanEck’s head of digital assets research, projected during a television interview that Bitcoin could reach $1 million per coin within several years, possibly about five. The firm describes this as its base-case scenario while warning the path will include sharp swings.
VanEck expects continued price appreciation for Bitcoin but cautions the market will remain cyclical and volatile. Sigel compared adoption patterns to the video game industry, citing younger investors’ intentions to allocate to Bitcoin and growing institutional involvement. He pointed to a central bank purchase of Bitcoin for reserves as an early sign of structural demand change. He added that new types of institutional participation are emerging.
On near-term price action, VanEck highlights Bitcoin’s correlation with the Nasdaq at its highest level in five years, which the firm views as evidence that recent gains reflect broader macro trends. The research team finds limited speculative excess in derivatives markets and interprets the recent rally as supported largely by short covering rather than widespread bullish positioning.
Sigel framed the outlook on volatility with a warning: ‘We think this asset is going to reach $1 million over the next several years, but it’s a very cyclical asset. There are no bailouts in bitcoin, so it’s going to be cycles along the way.’ He also said, ‘People don’t quit; they also don’t quit bitcoin.’
VanEck’s projection aligns with seven-figure forecasts from other asset managers, though those groups used different analytical methods. On May 7, Bitcoin traded around $81,000; a rise to $1 million would require more than a 12-fold increase. Reclaiming the October 2025 record above $126,000 would cover only a portion of the distance to seven figures.
VanEck reiterated the risks tied to volatility and market cycles and noted that large price moves, upward or downward, are likely while any long-term price target is reached.
